Is it the summery, year-round temperatures that inspire 300,000 people to relocate to The Sunshine State every year? Or is the miles of beautiful beaches, plentiful jobs and tropical scenery that serves as motivation? Regardless of what your reasons might be to move to Southeast Florida this year, you're going to need a home or rental that's affordable and that offers quick and easy access to the beach. Here's what we recommend in the way of reasonable seaside properties that won't blow your home-buying budget:
The median price of homes sold recently in Deerfield Beach is a shockingly low $167K. This is prime for an area that's located just north of Fort Lauderdale. Close enough to still be considered a part of the Miami Metro Area, but shy enough to harbor a population of only 80,000, Deerfield Beach provides an easy foot-in-the-door to homebuyers who want to purchase a piece of the tropics. Established in the late 1800s, and named for the abundant deer that once roamed the area, Deerfield Beach today offers a scenic boardwalk and a fishing pier, along with its own historical society and arboretum.
There's lots to love about Ft. Pierce, located just south of Vero Beach. Family-oriented attractions include the National Navy SEAL Museum and the Heathcote Botanical Gardens. Additionally, you'll find plenty of places to swim and surf at the Ft. Pierce Inlet State Park. But perhaps the biggest draw for buyers looking to relocate to the Ft. Pierce area is the median home price of just over $162K. Fort Pierce offers multiple oceanfront beaches, including Blind Creek Beach, where sunbathing and snorkeling are welcome.
The median home value in Vero Beach is just a shade over $222K -- still affordable for a beachfront home overlooking the ocean. Vero Beach offers a brown pelican sanctuary and a botanical garden. Part of Florida's famed Treasure Coast, this town is popular for golfing, fishing, and water sports. Located right along the Atlantic Seaboard, Vero Beach has banned the development of buildings higher than four stories, setting this city apart from those other high-rise tourist attractions you see elsewhere.
When you're ready to pull up stakes and head down south to partake of the sun and the sand of Southeast Florida, begin your home search in these three seaside communities that offer all the upscale amenities and attractions of Miami and Daytona Beach without the accompanying price tags.
